The Compact serves as an advisory group to state leaders from the Ohio Department of Education (Office for Exceptional Children) and the Ohio Department of Higher Education on issues related to Ohio’s system of preparation and personnel development, especially with regard to the education of students from marginalized groups (e.g., students with disabilities and learning difficulties).
At the core of the Compact’s work is the commitment to improving the capacity of all educators to work together to meet the instructional needs of all students. Acting on this commitment, the Compact:
- Incentivizes inclusive models of teacher and administrator preparation
- Incentivizes simultaneous renewal through institution of higher education – school district partnerships
- Identifies strategies for addressing gaps in personnel preparation and ongoing development
- Supports research, demonstration, and evaluation projects
- Disseminates information on critical issues of common concern to institutions of higher education and K-12 educators
- Promotes collaborative learning opportunities
